POSITION TITLE: DOULA (part time Position)
1. Position Summary:
Provides ongoing emotional, physical and educational support before, during and after birth to families expecting a baby.
Serves as part of the Midwifery health care team.
2. Essential duties and responsibilities which must be performed in order to carry out the position purpose summarized above:

A. Prepares the mother for birth by working with her to develop birthing plan, educating her about the birthing process, providing her with emotional support and offering support services before, during and after childbirth.
B. Works in conjunction with midwifery team to provide doula support for NFP patients. This includes patient home visits, attending Centering pregnancy/parenting with the patient, accompanying the patient during prenatal medical appointments and labor, and providing support postpartum.
C. Provides emotional support and assistance with positioning and comfort measures during childbirth.
D. Offers evidence based information to educate expecting families about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and parenting one-on-one.
E. Through collaboration and outreach initiatives, develops partnerships within the community to implement and deliver high quality services.
F. Participates in patient recruitment and retention initiatives.
G. Participates in program fundraising initiatives.
H. Develops/maintains program/patient database information as required.
A. Collaborate with members of the health care team and other health professionals as it relates to essential job duties.
B. Complies with patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
C. Maintains organizational skills and responsibilities in keeping appointments with patients.
D. Perform other functional related duties as assigned.

Completion of a Certified Doula Training Program or must acquire within first year of hire.
Completion of Community Health Worker Program or must acquire within first year of hire.
Demonstrated knowledge of community health.
Fluency in writing, and speaking English.
In-depth emotional intelligence: Demonstrated self-awareness, accurate self-assessment, sensitivity and empathy, openness, reliability, and consistency.
Culturally sensitive and comfortable working with a diverse urban population.
Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office, Data Analysis.
Commitment to continuing professional development.
Written and oral communications skills; Demonstrated ability to teach patients and families.
Must demonstrate good judgment, flexibility, and initiative.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Organized and detail-oriented.
Able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
Reliable transportation and current automobile insurance. Travel to multiple sites, NFP facilities and other locations required.
Ability to participate in call rotation.
