This is administrative and supervisory work directing a staff of field investigators engaged in gathering facts to determine compliance with federal, state and/or local laws and regulations pertaining to the area of assignment. The position in the Elections assignment supervises staff performing the investigation of voter registration eligibility and the securing and inspection of polling sites in the Office of the City Commissioners. The position in the City Controller assignment supervises staff performing investigations and/or special inquiries into allegations of fraud, government waste, corruption, misconduct, unethical conduct, other illegal or prohibited activities of City employees and officials, contractors and users of City services. Contact with the general public and supervision of field investigatory and inspectional personnel and clerical personnel are significant aspects of the work.
Assignments require evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with standard supervisory and investigatory practices and general work instructions. An employee in this class has controlling responsibility for investigations in the area of assignment. Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative superior.
